School Recycling Shows

Teachers, call now to make reservations.  The City’s Department of Environmental Services and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY)are partnering for a sixth consecutive year to bring recycling education shows to more than 20,000 students around Oahu.

November 25 – December 17, 2016:  Take a field trip to HTY to see a performance of “A Plantation Celebration”. This collection of original scenes, stories and classic songs turns a nostalgic eye to our past. Some of Hawaii’s best writers reflect on a time that built the values of community, diversity and ohana that we treasure today. This production will continue HTY’s ongoing priority of creating inter-generational programming by celebrating this unique moment in the history of Hawaii.  In keeping true to plantation times, major themes of A Plantation Celebration include creatively reducing and reusing materials to prevent waste.  Students will leave with some helpful tips for how to make their holidays greener, along with some materials from the City & County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services to help inspire proper waste sorting techniques for the coming year. February 2017: The extremely popular “Sort It Out” travelling show is back!  Book a free 60-minute recycling performance workshop for your school.  Performers entertain the students with songs, games and skits that effectively educate them about the City’s three-cart curbside recycling program.  Schools also receive recycling educational materials to use in the classroom.  Reserve early because shows are limited.  Contact HTY School Reservations Manager, Stu Hirayama, for details. 839-9885 (Ext 701) or email
